WE BELIEVE BLACK LIVES MATTER

Tompkins Mask Makers (TMM) believes Black Lives Matter and supports local organizations invested in dismantling all facets of white supremacy. In a small step towards that end, we are announcing a collaborative fundraiser to benefit Black Hands Universal, a project of Ithaca's Southside Community Center.  Seamstresses from TMM turned original screen-printed fabric by celebrated local artist, Maryam Adib into a series of limited edition cloth face masks. All proceeds from the sale of these masks will be donated to Black Hands Universal to support their effort to create opportunities for the disenfranchised by providing them with job placement and training, financial literacy, mental health resources, health and wellness, as well as  cultural and educational resources for kids to adults. For more about Black Hands Universal visit their website here: https://www.blackhandsuniversal.com/

More about the artist: Maryam Adib works in oil paint, fibers and screen printing, and her murals can be seen at the Southside Community Center and the Cancer Resource Center. Adib won third prize in the 2019 Down Gallery Student Select exhibition at SUNY Cortland. Her 2020 SUNY Cortland BFA Thesis work critically examines the evolution of American racism post-slavery, with a particular emphasis of feminist interpretations of reproductive rights and the resilience and strength of black womanhood. Digital prints and screen-printed tees, totes and bandanas of Maryam’s work can be purchased at https://www.etsy.com/shop/SmarfArt.
